Commission reduction

Just a quick one..  Can a company lower a commission structure but add more responsibility.  To me that sounds like unilaterally change the conditions of employment to the employees detriment but I am not a labour specialist and want to check.  If a company ads more responsibility to an employee surely they cannot decrease his earning potential?  The company state that the employee will be earning considerably more due to the new responibility and therefore they feel they need to decrease his commission percentage to bring his earning in line..  I believe this is not acceptable as they are increasing his workloads but decreasing his earning potential.
Any views or comments appreciated

well you seem to have an idea as to what the employer may or may not do..yes, you  are right, employers cannot unilaterally change the terms and conditions of employment contract without the agreement of the employees. however if such restructuring is based on the operational requirements of s189 LRA, this question has been left open by the legislature, it seems as though the company / employer may implement unliateral changes. if you do stand to benefit from the change, then why not!
