Hi,

I was retrenched in Nov 2018 making my last day on 28 Feb 2019. I was offered 1 week for every year worked. The same company, a year later is now offering 2 weeks for every year worked. Do i have any ground to also claim the additional weeks for every year.

The minimum required by law is one week for every year of continuous service. This is really all the law requires and if a company changes their policy to allow retrenched individuals to receive more then that is simply their good fortune.

You are unlikely to succeed in claiming 2 weeks since your employer was not under any obligation to pay more to you at the time, they have the choice to pay more but legally speaking they are not obliged to pay out more than what they paid to you.
