I would like some advise please? They broke into our office building Easter Sunday night and stole all the laptops and External Hard drives.

All my work backups was on the External due to the server running out of space and I was scared it was going to crash. My boss was aware of this situation. He is now holding me responsible for 3 years work that is missing. Holding me responsible for possibly losing his client.  Is he allowed to do that and is he allowed to dismiss me?
