timeline for decisions on redundant positions

Good day, my company have advised me that my position is redundant in my hometown and is being centralized to another city.  They have offered to relocate me in order to retain my skills and gave me a date as to when they would like me to start (within a month).  As the company cannot afford to adjust my salary, I have advised them that due to living cost increase I would not be able to afford relocating on my current salary.  In the initial call to relocate, I have asked what the next step would be if the relocation option does not work for us and they stated that we will then have to discuss our separation (which I assume would be retrenchment).

They have been silent since and is not communicating.  I know now that my position is redundant and want to seek other employment but cannot do so until I they have started the retrenchment process - although the next step has not been confirmed or communicated.  Do I have a stance to put them into a position to make a decision or can they now be silent for the next few months until the timeline to retrench me would suite them?

Thank you kindly

Good day

This matter seems rather complicated, I would advise that if you are a member of Labour Protect to please contact them. They will transfer you to an attorney who will be able to assist you with your matter. If you are not a member of Labour Protect I would advise you seek advise from an attorney who deals specifically with labour law. The Labour Protect website has a number of attorneys that will be more than willing to assist you in your matter.

Regards

LP
