Employer made to commitment to provide transport to and from work, never arrived due to lack of planning. Waited over three (3) hours at designated point. Was in constant contact with employer. Went home, as no other mode of transport was available, public transport was on strike. Some employees got leave paid for day, others did not, is this fair, can I demand to be paid, as I feel they failed?
Refer to your employment contract. If there is a clause within the contract that states you are entitled to transport to and from work then you may enforce said clause. In the event that no such clause exists then it is a matter of company policy.
If the company policy is silent on the matter then it would be advisable to fill out a grievance form and escalate the issue to HR.
