Hi. My basic salary was increased for 1 month. The following months it was back to the previous basic salary. I was not informed of the increase or decrease of my basic salary. After enquiry at HR they inform that it was a glitz in the system. They now want the payslips to investigate it. I'm not the only employee it happened to. I would just like to know if your salary was increased, although through glitz, can it be decreased?
The only way remuneration can be altered under a contract of employment and in terms of labour law is by agreement between both parties. Therefore if the increase was due to a glitch then there was no agreement between the parties to the employment contract and consequently it can be reduced back to the contractual rate.
