Employment Contract

My employment contract states that i must work 45 hours a week. There is no mention of starting and finishing times,

The normal trading hours of the business is 08h00 to 17h00. I have made an arrangement with my immediate superior that I would start at 7.30 and finish at 16.30, who verbally agreed to this as long as I work 45 hours and not less. What  I want to know is if the general manager verbally states that I have to start at 08 and finish at 17, do I have to comply?

My contract also states that I report to my immediate superior who is the Group financial Controller.

Refer to your contract. Often there is a "non-variation" clause which basically means that the terms of the agreement will not be changed unless it is agreed to and put in writing.
