I have been presented with an opportunity to start a new business within a retail business subject to agreeing a reasonable probationary period. Given that this is a new business, it could take some time to establish and a strategy/business plan is yet to be formulated, I do not believe that it is fair to include sales targets in the objectives during the probationary period. My understanding of the probationary period is to assess whether the employee has the necessary skills, competencies, experience and capabilities to do the job and is also a suitable fit for the organisation. Views/legal advice would be appreciated
