Hi,
I have been with my current employer for about 6 years. I never signed a letter of appointment, nor a contract. About 3 years ago my employer dropped me to half day and cut my pay in half, without discussion, agreement or notification. I have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. My question is for how long is my employer obligated to continue paying my salary whilst I am not at work.

For as long as you have sick leave, which is 30 days in a 3 year cycle. After you have exhausted that all, you will have to either negotiate something with your employer or take the rest as unpaid leave.
