I have worked for this company for nearly a year.  I have been told that I am being retrenched as I am too expensive.  Is this fair?  I have not been offered a lesser salary for lesser hours or anything - only re-employment in the next 2 months?

Part of any retrenchment is a proper consultation process. Its at these meetings that you must provide these alternatives, such as a pay cut. They dont have to accept your suggestions but they must give you full reasons why they were not able to accomodate them.
