Is it ethical for a company to advise an employee of a perk commission for work done only to remove it just a couple of months later purely because it doesn't fit the model they envisaged for the company?

Am I right in saying that since it was not put in writing, the company has every right?

Verbal agreements are binding, however, they are difficult to prove. Its always preferable to have them in writing.
